Volotea, the airline company of the European regional capitals, today announces the creation of a new route from Montpellier Airport. The Montpellier-Munich route will now be accessible to inhabitants of the Hérault region via direct flights at attractive fares. To celebrate the opening of this new route, Volotea is launching an exceptional promotion today and for 48 hours, with tickets from 9 euros valid on flights departing from Montpellier and bound for Munich.
From 25 May 2018, Volotea will open a new route to Munich to expand its network from Montpellier. The Munich-Montpellier route will be available twice a week, with an offering of more than 10,000 seats.
In 2018, the airline will increase the number of seats by 34% compared to 2017, to nearly 260,000 seats available, and will step up the number of flights, i. e. a total of 1775 flights will be operated from Montpellier next year.
The airline will serve 7 destinations from Montpellier Airport in 2018: 6 in France (Ajaccio, Bastia, Brest, Lille, Nantes and Strasbourg) and Munich in Germany.
Volotea's International Development Director, Edo Friart, explains: "The good results of the summer and over the year of our stopover in Montpellier show that it was the right decision to continue developing routes to new destinations. The opening of the Montpellier-Munich route, a first international route for Volotea departing from Montpellier, will enable the airline to open its network from Montpellier to outside France, while reinforcing its domestic flights to other French regions, and all this thanks to direct flights at attractive fares".
Emmanuel Brehmer, Chairman of the Management Board of Montpellier Méditerranée Airport, comments: "We are delighted by the quality of the partnership that Volotea and Aéroport Montpellier Méditerranée have been able to initiate and sustain over the past five years. With this new route, we are taking a new step forward for the benefit of our territory and its inhabitants, whether for leisure or business purposes. What is remarkable is the match between Volotea's development plan and our Destination 2020 strategic plan, aiming at better links between Montpellier and major French and European destinations.
In the summer of 2017, Volotea experienced significant traffic growth from Montpellier. Volotea carried more than 59,000 passengers, up 70% from 2016. From June to August, the airline operated more than 460 flights from Montpellier and registered a 92% load factor. The company also achieve 100% flight regularity via Montpellier.
Volotea continues its development
On 5 April 2017, Volotea celebrated its 5th anniversary. In September, the airline had reached 14 million passengers since its first flight in 2012 and expects to reach more than 4.3 million by 2017.
In 2017, Volotea operated more than 44,000 flights via its nine bases: Venice, Nantes, Bordeaux, Palermo, Strasbourg, Asturias, Verona, Toulouse and Genoa, where it is the leader for a large number of destinations (except Toulouse). To support its growth, Volotea currently employs 875 people, after creating 150 new jobs.
In 2018, Volotea will open 58 new routes to serve a total of 293 routes, connecting 78 small and medium-sized regional European capitals across 13 countries: France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Greece, Croatia, Czech Republic, Albania, Portugal, Malta, Austria, Ireland and Luxembourg. Volotea has just announced the opening of a new base in Marseille in 2018. Volotea will also create 250 new jobs next year.
Volotea will operate its network with a fleet of 32 aircraft, comprising Boeing 717 and Airbus A319. Both models are renowned for their comfort and reliability, with seats 5% larger than average.
The Airbus A319 is the airline's preferred model for its future growth, and will allow the airline to increase its carrying capacity by 20% from 125 to 150 seats, and to carry passengers over longer distances.
Volotea was awarded the prize for the best airline based in France, Italy and Spain by Trip Advisor’s Travellers' Choice 2017 in the "low-cost regional airline" category.
