Luggage
Preparing your luggage is an important step before your trip. It is essential to know the best practices when preparing your hand luggage and luggage in the hold.
CABIN BAGGAGE
Size and dimensions
- On average, for most companies:
- The size for a cabin bag is 55 x 35 x 25 cm max,
- Only 1 piece of cabin baggage per passenger is allowed.
However, each airline has its own cabin baggage conditions, particularly in regard to weight. It is therefore important to check this with your airline before travelling.
Liquids in the cabin
For safety reasons, the transport of liquids in the cabin is strictly regulated.
- You are allowed to take the following into the cabin:
- Liquids up to 100ml: packed in a single clear plastic bag,
- Cash purchases at Duty Free, packed in a security bag: the receipt must remain visible in the security bag as well as the cash item. Beware of flights with stopovers, where your items may be refused at new boarding.
- Specific medicines and food products: these must meet a particular need (e.g. baby food).
What should be considered liquid or not?
Safety regulations apply to all liquids, aerosols, gels, pastes, creams, lotions, mousses, jams, soft cheeses, etc. and to any other substance that is at least partially liquid at room temperature.
Liquids over 100ml must therefore be transported in the hold.
HOLD BAGAGE
Size and dimensions
- On average, for most companies:
- The weight can not exceed 23kg: it differs according to the companies. In case of exceeding the authorized weight, it may be subject to additional billing.
- It can measure up to 158cm.
Practical information
- You have to know that :
- Checked baggage must be tagged at the check-in desk,
- Remove your old travel labels,
- Check that your luggage is securely closed. If you use a padlock, it must be TSA approved for security reasons,
- Do not carry valuables in the hold,
- Pack carefully any fragile object,
- For connecting flights, the transfer is usually made by the airline. However, in case of different company, it is better to inquire with each one.
