Celebrating 2 openings: Moscow and Bristol
On Sunday, June 2, in the presence of elected officials from partner local authorities, Montpellier Méditerranée Airport inaugurated two new routes: to and from Moscow operated by Ural Airlines and to and from Bristol operated by easyJet.
Every year, Montpellier Méditerranée Airport (AMM) celebrates its inaugural flights, as is customary. It is less common for two openings to take place on the same day, as happened on Sunday, June 2. In keeping with Montpellier's aeronautical tradition and friendly spirit, token gifts were offered to the first passengers, a cake in the company's colours was shared and, as soon as the first landing was made, the aircraft was christened - by the airport fire brigade - by taxiing under a water arch.
The opening of the Montpellier-Moscow direct service is a real event, as Montpellier Méditerranée has been designated as the only entry point into Occitania for air traffic with the Russian Federation. Ural Airlines, the fourth Russian airline, operates this route with three flights per week (Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays) at extremely convenient times (arrival in Montpellier at 12:40 pm, take-off at 1:40 pm), for a flight time of 4 hours. Tickets are available on the official website www.uralairlines.com and on the UralAirlines mobile application, as well as at the call centre at 8-800-7700-262 or at the air ticket offices. And of course on the airport website!
The opening of the Montpellier-Bristol route is also great news for the people of Montpellier and the region: until 23 October, they will enjoy a direct flight to the 450 park and garden city in South West England. A route now operated by easyJet twice a week, on Wednesdays and Sundays.
easyJet offers tickets from €30 (*), available in travel agencies, on the company's website www.easyJet.com or from its free mobile application, or by phone on +33 (0) 820 420 315 (service 0.12 €/min + call charges defined by the operator). But also on the airport website www.montpellier.aeroport.fr.
Emmanuel Brehmer, Chairman of the Management Board of Montpellier Méditerranée Airport, said he was "pleased with the confidence placed in us by the Russian and French governments and Ural Airlines. The stakes, both economic and tourist, are high for our territory. Concerning Bristol, the President of AMM once again expressed his pride and hopes: "easyJet, a company that has been present on our platform for 11 years, continues to believe in Montpellier. And all the more so as another easyJet destination, in addition to the existing 4, will be launched on 29 July with 4 flights per week to and from Roissy/Charles de Gaulle".
"Since this Sunday, June 2, 2019", concluded Emmanuel Brehmer, "for Montpellier Airport, its metropolis and its territory, a great and beautiful history is being written".
