- Explore the catacombs: Warning! Sensitive souls abstain! The Catacombs of Paris is a municipal ossuary which dates back to the late 18th century. It holds about 6 million skeletons! The section which is open to the public represents only 0.5% of the Paris catacombs... Incidentally Jean-de-la-Fontaine’s remains are there.
